France Warns Britain That The Two Sides would “Rip Each Other Apart” during Brexit Trade Talks
France has warned Britain to expect a bitter, bloody battle in Brexit trade talks with the EU, stating that the two sides would “rip each other apart”.
Negotiations for a future trade deal which encompasses the EU-UK relations are due to start next month. However, the UK Government in London and the bureaucrats in Brussels have already been in conflict over the stipulations that will rule British financial firms’ access to the EU after Brexit.
France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Yves le Drian stated that Britain and France hold very different views and believes that with the two sides being so far apart France’s position would make it tough to achieve Britain’s aim of agreeing on a free trade deal by the end of 2020.
He further states that “I think that on trade issues and the mechanism for future relations, which we are going to start on, we are going to rip each other apart,” Le Drian said at the Munich Security Conference. But that is part of negotiations, everyone will defend their own interests.”
